Clink is taking a winter break….

Its been a while between escapes and after a crazy couple of years we have finally booked ourselves a trip and are heading away for some surf, sun, sand and yoga, and of course lots of researching into F and B will be taking place too!

The plan was to leave the crew to it here running Clink while we were away, but the plan changed as they do,  so we will be closing up on Sunday 25th June and re-opening on Wednesday 12th July.

We will come back rested and relaxed and fully charged to continue doing what we love and maybe with some fresh new ideas!

See you on the other side!!

Summer Menu is LIVE

As the nights get warmer and a little longer our tastes and what we crave change a bit. Gone are the slow cooked meats and deep flavours as we celebrate fresh new season flavours with our signature quality produce.

With our adaptable kitchen team we have always catered for the many dietary requirements and helped our customers navigate any food allergies as all our food is made fresh here. Many of our dishes are gluten free or can be made gluten free when you ask and now we’ve put together a page in the menu especially for vegans. All our delicious food without any animal additions making it super easy to order without a lot of requests.

Lockdown Goodness in Sumner

balsamic fig chutney

We have been foraging in our neighbourhood and had lots of fresh food we didn’t want to go to waste in the chiller at Clink so here we are making some lockdown goodness.

Just before we got put in lockdown 2 lovely big trays of fresh figs arrived at Clink from Old Road Estate, a lovely family owned estate up in Marlborough. As with all good produce getting from the growers to the customer is fraught with potential disaster and the couriers did eventually deliver our figs but not in the condition they left the farm in, we were so sad and the crew up at the farm were pretted gutted too. As it turned out we weren’t going to be able to offer some delicious fresh fig dishes as LOCKDOWN was anoounced on Monday 23rd and we had to close.

So here we are… at home with kilos of  fresh figs so we decided to do some Clink prep for the coming months.

First up is an insanely delicious Balsamic fig relish which we can’t wait to pair with some ripe soft cheese from Canterbury Cheesemongers when they re-open  but found we had some nice brie and blue in the fridge from Kapiti so we didn’t have to wait too long.

Still got quite a few figs left so going to make some fig infused bourbon next week for our new Manhattan that will be available in Winter on the cocktail list. Head over to our Facebook page to see what else we’ve been up too!

We have noticed a few fig trees out in the neighbourhood so if you are lucky enough to have one here’s a recipe to get you started that will keep you going for your cheeseboards all Autumn… maybe even Winter too. Depends how much of a cheese freak you are!

Ingredients
  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 large or 2 small red onions, peeled and diced
  • 4 cups fresh figs, preferably dark purple Mission figs, chopped
  • 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • freshly ground pepper to taste
  • 1 Tablespoon fresh rosemary, leaves stripped from stems, finely minced
Instructions
Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Add red onion and saute 3-4 minutes, until onion begins to turn translucent. Add figs, vinegar, honey, salt, pepper, and rosemary. Stir to combine, bring to a boil, turn down the heat, and simmer about 45 minutes, until the mixture is glossy and thickened. Check seasoning and add more salt and pepper if necessary. Cool before serving or storing.Note: For best flavor, store fig balsamic vinegar relish in a sealed container in the refrigerator for 1-2 days before serving.

Take Away food in Sumner from Clink

Takeaway Menu is live

Here we go again….

another storm to weather, Christchurch knows all about this and together we can do this and come out the other side!

For now we are still going strong at Clink. We’ve doubled down on all our hyghiene practices and have put extra sanitiser stations in place. Our team always do use best practise but we are doing even more by sanitising EFTPOS terminals, handles and really anything that is touched regularly during service including giving our tables and chairs an uber clean between guests. We have the option of contactless payments through PAYWAVE and have asked any staff who have a cold or feel unwell to stay at home.

Despite all these efforts some of you may decide to stay in during this storm so we’ve put together a Take out Menu so you can still enjoy a fabulous Clink meal at home. All our containers are of course plant based and packaged up in a paper carrier bag for you to easily pick up. If you are unable to pick up we may be able to deliver directly to you so please ask if this is possible when you call us with your order. Payment can be made online prior to delivery if this is the case.

Rob and I have been here before and know that during these storms our business model needs to be fluid. We will find ways to keep the good food flowing to all our customers for as long as it takes to come through this.

TAKEAWAY MENU

Vegan Pizzas have arrived at Clink

#twoforone

The kitchen team are working on some new menu items that will be great for people looking for a vegan alternative. With a reasonably small menu we’ve always struggled on how to offer some of our vegan options that we have in our kitchen, so as we head into our new menu planning for Autumn/ Winter 2020 this is something we are keen to explore.

The first step was easy really. Clink does great pizzas and we have a fantastic vegetarian pizza that with just modifying the cheese to a vegan alternative will finally open up this section of the menu to everyone. We already have gluten free bases available and 2 vegetarian pizzas and now we can offer a Vegan Pizza!

So pop down and give our new VEGAN pizza a go!

THE SHANK – a play on prison jargon not the lamb kind with roast sweet potato, spinach, caramelised onion and spiced cauliflower

And don’t forget we have our two for one pizza deal every Thursday before 8pm, dine in only!

Explore Sumner

Spring is in the air and Sumner never looked prettier!

How about that… the roadworks are FINALLY over and Sumner Village has had quite the makeover!

As you come around the famous “Shag Pile” corner you are greeted to the fantastic new section of the Coastal Pathway. A clever mix of old and new with restored monuments and the use of historic stone pavers for the new stairs to the sand, no more clambering over the rocks!

Protecting our dunes is the new hardwood boardwalk in front of the Sumner Surf Lifesaving Club. Be sure to give the guards on duty a wave over the summer months, they do a great job of looking after visitors and locals in and around the ocean! If you know us you might even see our son on duty this summer as he joins the crew as a junior lifeguard. He really wants to be the IRB driver but only time and dedication will get him there!

Walking into the village our road has been chopped up and given a new coat, carefully paved areas make it clear to slow down as you are now in a village. Architecturally designed seating offers the perfect opportunity to take a breather and enjoy the new streetscape. Are they Pohutakawas lining the streets? We certainly hope so, Christmas will be even more festive with our own NZ Christmas trees in flower!

Now your rested it’s time to explore the retail and hospitality precinct, take your time as there are some absolute gems to be found. Of course you are totally going to want to spend time at Clink with its modern cuisine, craft beers on tap, seasonaly cocktails and stunning selection of wines. We have THE most sunny and sheltered courtyard to be found and is the perfect place to unwind and relax. Open 7 nights for dinner from 5pm and weekends from 10am Clink keeps it fresh and seasonal.

But wait there’s more!!! Clink is no longer the end of the road…. you can continue your journey over the hill on the picturesque new Evans Pass road to our coolest wee portside suburb Lyttelton! We are so happy to be celebrating renewed connections with our neighbours over the hill!

So what’s keeping you…. pack up the car, jump on the bike, grab the bus and head out to Sumner to celebrate surf, sand, sunshine and new beginnings!
