Sumner
Take Away food in Sumner from Clink
Here we go again….
another storm to weather, Christchurch knows all about this and together we can do this and come out the other side!
For now we are still going strong at Clink. We’ve doubled down on all our hyghiene practices and have put extra sanitiser stations in place. Our team always do use best practise but we are doing even more by sanitising EFTPOS terminals, handles and really anything that is touched regularly during service including giving our tables and chairs an uber clean between guests. We have the option of contactless payments through PAYWAVE and have asked any staff who have a cold or feel unwell to stay at home.
Despite all these efforts some of you may decide to stay in during this storm so we’ve put together a Take out Menu so you can still enjoy a fabulous Clink meal at home. All our containers are of course plant based and packaged up in a paper carrier bag for you to easily pick up. If you are unable to pick up we may be able to deliver directly to you so please ask if this is possible when you call us with your order. Payment can be made online prior to delivery if this is the case.
Rob and I have been here before and know that during these storms our business model needs to be fluid. We will find ways to keep the good food flowing to all our customers for as long as it takes to come through this.

Explore Sumner
Spring is in the air and Sumner never looked prettier!
How about that… the roadworks are FINALLY over and Sumner Village has had quite the makeover!
As you come around the famous “Shag Pile” corner you are greeted to the fantastic new section of the Coastal Pathway. A clever mix of old and new with restored monuments and the use of historic stone pavers for the new stairs to the sand, no more clambering over the rocks!
Protecting our dunes is the new hardwood boardwalk in front of the Sumner Surf Lifesaving Club. Be sure to give the guards on duty a wave over the summer months, they do a great job of looking after visitors and locals in and around the ocean! If you know us you might even see our son on duty this summer as he joins the crew as a junior lifeguard. He really wants to be the IRB driver but only time and dedication will get him there!
Walking into the village our road has been chopped up and given a new coat, carefully paved areas make it clear to slow down as you are now in a village. Architecturally designed seating offers the perfect opportunity to take a breather and enjoy the new streetscape. Are they Pohutakawas lining the streets? We certainly hope so, Christmas will be even more festive with our own NZ Christmas trees in flower!
Now your rested it’s time to explore the retail and hospitality precinct, take your time as there are some absolute gems to be found. Of course you are totally going to want to spend time at Clink with its modern cuisine, craft beers on tap, seasonaly cocktails and stunning selection of wines. We have THE most sunny and sheltered courtyard to be found and is the perfect place to unwind and relax. Open 7 nights for dinner from 5pm and weekends from 10am Clink keeps it fresh and seasonal.
But wait there’s more!!! Clink is no longer the end of the road…. you can continue your journey over the hill on the picturesque new Evans Pass road to our coolest wee portside suburb Lyttelton! We are so happy to be celebrating renewed connections with our neighbours over the hill!
So what’s keeping you…. pack up the car, jump on the bike, grab the bus and head out to Sumner to celebrate surf, sand, sunshine and new beginnings!

Falling into Autumn
The nights and mornings are just getting tinged with darkness and it makes me start to think about flavours and textures that make the cooler seasons so wonderful.
We were really luck to get the opportunity to taste Te Mata Estate’s 2015 vintage at The George Hotel last week.
Wow what a great vintage and while many of the wines are ready to be enjoyed now, ‘The Coleraine’ will cellar well for many years to come. Look out for these wines on the new wine list that will be launching mid April. Over the coming weeks we will be tasting some wines on Friday’s from 6pm, a little taste as you arrive to gather some feedback. This week we start with Mt. Beautiful Winery from North Canterbury. By producing elegant, certified-sustainable, estate-grown wines, they have found a way to capsure in the bottle, the climate and the richness of the land.
Wines aren’t the only think getting a makeover – the cocktail list goes moody, the beers less fruity and the kitchen are busy developing some new dishes in the kitchen. Some of these will be getting a try out on the trust the chef menu which as many of you know is a fabulous, relaxed and interesting way to dine at Clink.
The rise of the MOCKTAIL
Driver friendly, headache free mocktails have a place on the menu at CLINK!
So what is a mocktail? – essentially everything you’d expect from a cocktail without the alcohol. Several ingredients built, muddled or blitzed with enthusiasm from the bar tender!
CLINK is a destination for most Christchurch people so driving for most is a must. Serving up the mocktails or lower alcohol alternatives is essential. Like our cocktail list, the mocktails are seasonally prepared often starting their life in the realms of the kitchen. Think cinnamon or chilli syrups, cranberry and apple shrubs, pear and ginger purees all made in the CLINK kitchen for your enjoyment!
If there is nothing on the list that grabs your fancy we have recently brought in Six Barrel Soda syrups to make our own unique sodas. With great flavours like cherry pomegranate, sarsaparilla, cola six and celery tonic these are an interesting alternative to a lemon lime and bitters or a lemonade. All made with fair trade organic cane sugar right here in NZ! Of course adding a shot of gin, vodka or rum to these is also worth a try.
Falling into your smoothie
The seasonal smoothie
The walnuts and apples are dropping, so time to harvest, caramelise, blend and serve. Get your smoothie fix at Clink in the weekend.
